Where did Shoshana’s story come from? Well, it started from a couples date-night D&D type game my wife and I started. Shoshana was the character that my wife created. Aaos was the God that I created to be my DM/persona as I ran the game for her. We came up with a backstory for Shoshana, and then went from there. Dak, is my forever D&D character. I have been playing him, and remaking him for years now. I have several versions of him from 3.5 all the way to 5.0 now. From level 1 all the way to 30.
That is where the story has it’s roots. But that is only it’s humble beginnings. I could not take anything from the actual campaign for the book, as that would be copyright infringement. And honestly, not the direction I wanted to go anyways.
So I took the characters we had come up with, tweaked the backstory a bit to fit the story in my head, and then I was off and running. The game/campaign we had been playing was already a very intimate/sexual game (it was a game intended for date night with couples after all) so The story started out being just an erotic tale. But I quickly found that the story was unfolding into a much bigger story than that. One that would take longer to tell. After the first 10,000 words flew onto the pages so quickly, I kept going. Another two weeks, and another 10,000 words later, and I realized I was not just writing an erotic story. I was writing an Epic Fantasy. One that was going to end up becoming a book.
So I kept going, not sure how far it would take me. Not knowing where my characters would lead me. Sure, I knew where I wanted my story to go. Where I expected my characters to end up. I have goals in mind. But As I wrote, my characters took on a life of their own, made choices I did not expect, or at times made choices sooner than I expected.
And now here we are, nine months later, and I have a full length novel written, and am at least a third of the way through a second book already. And I have solid plans (with outlines) for this to be a prequel trilogy of books, leading to a series (at least three, maybe more) of books where the meat of the story will be, the main story that I originally set out to tell.
