Still working...

When it came to creating my world, one of the biggest tasks, was creating the rules, spells, and mechanics of magic. It started with basic concepts first: Who can wield magic? As with most fantasy worlds, Elves are, in my world, naturally attuned to magic. There are many sources out there that use this concept. And I’m also not alone in the idea that “anyone” theoretically has the potential to wield magic, given enough training and practice. Though not everyone chooses that particular model.

The next part of the puzzle that came along for me what how detailed I was going to be about the magic. Some simply gloss over the finer details. In fact most do. If you’ve ever read Terry Goodkind, my favorite Fantasy author, then you will likely recognize his influence in my writing here. He absolutely does occasionally “gloss” over stuff, but only when it isn’t important. In fact, my favorite of all his books, Soul of the Fire, goes into some amazing detail about how magic works. I drew a lot of inspiration from that.

In fact, I even took the time to write a couple of Magical Tomes, books about magic, that are featured within the book. And it was some of my favorite stuff. It is very ‘textbook’ like, and I loved every second of writing it.

To be continued…
